Celine

  The Vault

In 1945, french designer Céline Vipiana established the Celine fashion house.   Celine began as a childrens custom shoe shop. A few decades later, the brand expanded and began to carry adult shoes, handbags, and a woman's line of high-end sportswear.

From 1997 to 2004, Michael Kors reigned as the new creative director at Celine. After Kors left the company the brand began to falter for a few years until 2008, when Phoebe Philo became the Creative Director.

Phoebe was born in Paris, France and obtained a degree at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. She began her career in the fashion industry as first assistant for Chole's 1997 Ready-to-Wear collection. In 2001, she was appointed Creative Director at Chloe.

After leaving Chloe, Phoebe moved back to London for a few years where she gave birth to her second child. In fall of 2008, Phoebe joined Celine and slowly pumped new life into the label.

      The Valuables

Two key elements to help identify a Celine piece.

1. French sophisticated sportswear

2. Ultra-trendy, uber modern

   The Lock

What can we expect from Phoebe at Celine for Fall 2011?

Classic, cool, and just plain interesting. Phoebe plays up on her British inspiration with heritage fabrics and prints such as wool and houndstooth fabric. The rest of her collections dips into collegiate plaids with a splash of American 70's vibe and modern sleek leather. She reconstructs Japanese denim into the most interesting dress shirts, jumpers, and trench coats. Trending on the runway not just Celine's are ankle socks and heels.
